Our Version of the GT500 Super Snake

 

We began working on the Snake upgrade last fall. Not an official one of course as we are not a certified Shelby Mod Shop. However, close enough to it for our customer Mel Blizzard and his gorgeous red on black Shelby. Here is how it looked pre-mod.

 

 

 

The Shelby design for the Super Snake includes two power levels – the base version with ‘only’ 600HP, and the ‘Super Duper’ Snake with 725HP! This was the version we were going for which includes a new Kenne Bell 2.8L ‘Big Bore’ supercharger, a full 3 inch JBA exhaust with long tube headers, a complete suspension upgrade, Baer 14”/6 piston brakes and a short throw shifter. Many other cosmetic upgrades but these are the principal performance mods.

 

Again we started with a baseline and it ran true at 518 FWHP.

 

 

We began with the exhaust upgrade, this time with JBA long tube headers,

3 inch x-pipe with hi-flow cats and 3 inch cat-back.

Sounds great and look at the results.

 

 

We then installed the awesome looking Kenne Bell 2.8L blower. Look at that monstrous dual 75mm throttle body and the massive intake!

 

 

And that’s an impressive cold air intake! The new Super Snake hood ducts all the air from the full width scoop directly into the cold air box.

 

 

With the standard 3.25 inch pulley

here’s the unexpected results! Beat our target by nearly 50 HP!

 

 

But we didn’t stop there! When we ordered this amazing kit we thought we might need some additional boost to get the 725HP we wanted so we ordered the smaller 2 7/8in pulley as an option. Boy were we wrong! But here we were with this smaller pulley wondering just how much this beast had in it. With the customer’s approval we installed it, put 101 octane race gas in it and pulled it again. After the pull we just looked at each other and exclaimed “Holy Cr*@#p!” And this is on a stock motor!

 

 

This unquestionably holds the record for “street” horsepower on our dyno. And here’s the pictures of the final result!
